Dr. Rice
OK, Secretary Powell is quitting State. Did the press blow that a bit out of proportion. I know he was the only one in the administration they liked. I'm not sure if it was because he is black, or because he had second thoughts about Iraq or for some other reason but all things considered he said he would do the job for one term and that is what he did. I know it is a bit unusual for someone inside the beltway to tell the truth, but this administration is breaking the mold.
I'm certain Dr. Rice will make a wonderful transition to State. She has the qualifications, she has the experience, she will fill the role admirably. However someone will start the Aunt Thomasina crap soon. Oh, well plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

Arafat dead
Arafat is dead, really. Someone finally pulled the plug. Now Palestine is rid of that scruffy tablecloth wearing thief perhaps they can get to working on peace. No one, not even Israel wants to keep Palestine and its people living like prisoners in their home land. Arafat did however because it was financially, politically and apparently personally rewarding for him.
If Arafat were not so corrupt and if he did not take hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars in foreign aid for himself perhaps they could have a good hospital in Palestine rather than having to send him off to France for treatment. Maybe the trip to France exacerbated his condition, that would be justice.
Rarely is someone's death a good thing, but this can be a good starting point for lasting peace in the Middle East - perhaps in my lifetime...Imshallah.

Madonna (the singer not The Madonna) wants US out of Iraq
Madonna, the well known singer of little virtue and self appointed foreign policy analyst wishes that the US withdraw troops from Iraq. In a recent interview Madonna voiced her concerns saying "My feelings are can we just all get out?".
The material girl's exhortation echoes other timeless queries such as "Can't we just be friends?" and "Can't we all just get along?".
Madonna's interview with British radio demonstrates that she is indeed like a virgin when it comes to international terrorism as she sees it down the block, around the street and in California.
Madonna a putative Catholic who now practices a nonsense pseudoreligion based on Hebrew texts: Kabbalah which requires adherents to wear a red string around their wrist to prevent anyone from giving them the evil eye. However this left over Band-Aid packet slitter does not ward off the middle finger gesture I am now wagging in her general direction.
Why do these people think I or for that matter anyone with more sense than an average sea slug cares what they think. I have more faith in the opinion of my garbage man or my plumber than I do of any of the leftist elite. Bruce Springsteen, Alec Baldwin, Babs, no one cares what you think...shut the hell up. Self important blowhards.

Gay marriage
Is gay marriage a right? I don't think so. I am not even sure that marriage is a right.
However homosexuals are not denied any rights available to the rest of the population. I can't get married to someone of the same gender- not that I have any desire to do so.
Gay marriage bans passed during the last election in a number of states. I think it was less about gay marriage than it was about the overall liberalization of social mores in this country. When I was younger people waited to have children until after marriage, then when someone had a child before they were married it was quietly welcomed. Now we see unmarried persons having children as some sort of status symbol or as a way of saying "look I can do this - I can raise this child all by myself” when they generally fail miserably. This is quite trendy among the Hollywood homosexuals such as Rosie O'Donnell and Ellen Degeneris or however she spells it.
Raising a child by yourself on purpose does little to demonstrate extraordinary genius or tremendous success. What it does demonstrate is selfishness and a need to prove something to one's self.
By empowering ourselves we have lost a great deal of our moral code. It seems the baby has been thrown out with the bath water.
